Play Cymatics

Adjust the excitation frequency and plate size to see different vibrational modes emerge. Particles migrate away from where the plate is vibrating most (the anti-nodes) to where the plate is not vbrating (the nodes).

Cymatics is the study of visible sound and vibration patterns. When a stiff plate is vibrated at specific frequencies, particles on its surface migrate toward where the plate remains stationary and away from spots that are vibrating. This creates patterns of nodes and antinodes across the plate. These patterns, known as Chladni figures after physicist Ernst Chladni, indicate the vibrational modes of the plate.
